Story

The Land of Coffee

Sumatra is the sixth largest island in Indonesia and is the most well-known for coffee production. The island invented a unique and distinct coffee processing method that is known as the ‘giling basah’ or ‘wet-hulled’.

Ms. Yuli

Our sourcing partner for Sumatran coffee, Tri Yuli Kurniasih, has been working in the coffee industry for more than 30 years. Over the course of her career, Ms. Yuli has developed extensive knowledge of coffee processing, roasting and brewing. She trained our master roaster in coffee roasting technique and has also cultivated relationships with many coffee farmers, transforming the traditional farmers' produce of coffee to a high quality coffee that’s appreciated by the specialty coffee shops through teaching them modern techniques of coffee production. She has also been successful in promoting their products to coffee roasteries in Jakarta and when she offered the Aceh Gayo beans from the Bener Meriah region, we wanted to support her hard work and dedication in helping the farmers that Ibu Yuli has been helping.
